The Fix Pump Track: Boulder, Colorado

One of our favorite spots to ride in the city of Boulder was amazingly enough, at a bike shop. A lot of shops have test ride areas where one can “try before you buy”. However, this is one shop that took that concept and blew it up!

It isn’t often you see a shop that specializes in our favorite aspect of the sport. Self-proclaimed Gravity Mountain Biking Nerds, this is our kind of shop. Not only do they stock the latest and greatest DH, Slopestyle, and DJ bikes, as well as a great selection of protective gear and components, but they have a large back yard populated with jumps, rollers, and berms. There are a bunch of different jump lines to choose from, and two pumptracks as well.

The first thing you notice (after the sign) when driving in is the big ol roll-in, (not pictured, sorry!) leading to a nice big line perfect for those working on getting into the next X-games. To be honest, we’ve been doing a lot more traveling than riding lately, and were therefore a bit rusty, and decided to pass. Time to look into line B.

Unfortunately, wintertime in Colorado is not exactly the best time to be riding bikes (snowboards, yes), as everything tends to be beat down from snow and lousy weather. Although most of the lines weren’t prime, we had a fun time riding a few that led into really fun super-fast bermed turns. It is clear the guys that dig here like to go fast, because you would need semi-pro racer skills just to clean some of the more advanced sections.

Watch out for that rock.

Although many of the jumps were in need of maintenance, we had a great time riding what we could. The pumptrack was fairly dialed, and we had a great time riding it until oxygen debt made us pant out loud.
