Gateway Green Bike Park Re-Opening Celebration

After closing a popular portion of Gateway Green Bike Park in the fall of 2021, the park officially reopened this Saturday with a re-opening celebration.

The south end of the park was closed for the last few years due to the “Better Red” project that expanded the MAX Red Lined and included a new TriMet transit bridge and track replacement. With the third phase of the park’s development complete, the re-opening celebration also served as an official opening of the completed park.

Opening Day festivities included an opening ceremony in conjunction with the annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day event, which included raffles, activities, and bike challenge stations.

Local residents arrived with their families to enjoy the events with a sizable turnout.

As there isn’t vehicle access to the park, the main entrance lies on the south end. The Better Red project changed the landscape on the south end of the park with a new direct pedestrian/bike bridge from the Gateway Transit Center, and as part of the construction, Portland Parks & Recreation built and landscaped a new plaza at the entry.

The blue flow trail line on the southside of Gateway Green is dubbed “Linda’s Line”.

For local mountain biking enthusiasts, the big news is the reconstruction of the flow trail gravity lines on the south end of the bike park.

The beginner friendly green line is called Rebar Ridge.

Two gravity-fed mountain bike skills trails were reconstructed after the light rail enhancements were completed. Consisting of an blue rated intermediate and beginner friendly green trail, trail features consist of bermed, insloped turns, rolling mounds, and table top jumps.

If you’re planning to visit the Gateway Green Bicycle Skills park, riders are encouraged to take public transit, ride, or park on the southside at the Gateway Transit Center. There was also supposed to be access from the west side from 92nd & Halsey, but apparently PBOT has canceled that project.
