Smart Traction Pin Design
A thin profile and chamfered corners help keep pedal strikes to a minimum, and the custom traction pins feature two height options via removable washers.
Threading from the bottom, the pins feature a shear line to reduce pedal damage when the pins are struck. The smooth chamfered surface should help glance pedals in the event of an impact. There’s a lot of smart ideas here – with bottom brackets getting ridiculously low on some bikes, pedal strikes have become a regular occurrence. Having pins that fail before blowing out pedal threads is smart. Plus, after they’ve sheared off, to replace them, you’d simply unthread them from the rear. Plus, with all the optional mounting points, if the threads did fail, you still have a few other locations. And if you want ALL OF THE PINS, you certainly have that option.

Pin height is adjusted by adding up to two pedal washers. If you’re like me and misplace the longer/shorter pins to your pedals almost immediately, this is kind of brilliant.
The Scarab pedal sells for $163. For more info check out ChromagBikes.com. Support the site by shopping for Chromag pedals at online partner CompetitiveCyclist.com.
