Upgrade Your Shoelaces: Caterpy No-tie Laces Review

Featuring a unique rubber core encased in a nylon sheath, Caterpy No-tie shoe laces are designed to flex, keeping your shoes fitted without any pinch or pressure points. The laces flex and stretch, allowing you to slip on shoes while fitting securely.

Elastic bumps allow you to secure the tension on the shoe and customize the feel without having to readjust them each time you put them on. The stretch provided by the elastic removes pressure points and the fit and feel of the shoe can be adjusted to your preference with a consistent fit and feel every time.

On the trail

Two of our testers took a pair of the Caterpy laces and put them on their go-to shoes. Though these shoes were initially designed for runners, they worked well for riding bikes and hiking. The ability to convert lace-up shoes to slip-on shoes is convenient, but the best part was not having to stop and retire shoelaces that came undone.

Our testers were impressed with the No-tie laces and would consider them an upgrade to any lace-up shoe.

Once you set and fine-tune your preferred spacing for the rubber bumps it’s a consistent fit, making them more comfortable.

Is it time to upgrade your lace-up shoes?

Whether we were hiking, riding, or running, our testers were impressed with the Caterpy No-tie shoe laces.

At $14-18 for a pair of shoe laces, they’re on the pricey side of the equation, but as an upgrade to your lace-up shoes, the ability to pull shoes on and off and never have to tie them again — while providing an ideal fit each time — adds significant value. We tested our two sample laces on flat pedal mtb shoes and hiking boots, but they’d be great on running and gym shoes as well.

Overall, we’re fans of the Caterpy No-tie laces and would consider them a upgrade to any lace-up shoe. Not only do they transform a lace-up shoe into a slip-on, but they also add comfort and allow an ideal and consistent fit. Though the cost makes them a bit of an investment, if they hold up over time, one could feasibly run them on more than one shoe helping justify your investment.

Assuming they hold up over time, they could feasibly be used on more than one pair of shoes, adding additional value. If you decide to upgrade your shoes, I’d recommend swapping out a few pairs of laces at once. (Changing out the laces to try them on different shoes for this review was a pain)

Available as single sets or as a three-pack for $35, (which is the price of two) it’s the best value short of waiting for them to go on sale. While that’s the cost of an inexpensive pair of kick-around shoes, it could be well spent if you have as many lace-up shoes as we do.
