Style Check: Women’s Fair Weather Castelli Road Kit

We’ve been experiencing some unusually warm weather in the Bay Area this winter, making it very difficult to stay indoors.  This weekend’s holiday extension meant a bonus ride day for us 9 to 5 types, and we took full advantage of it— first by sleeping in! Starting a little after 11am, we pedaled straight to the Oakland hills. After completing one of the usual loops, we descended into the Berkeley flats where we enjoyed a lunch stop to refuel. Then we decided it would be neat to end our ride with a scenic pedal on the new Bay Bridge bike path.

Although it currently leads to a dead end a few miles out, the views are amazing, and it was a nice way to enjoy a sunny day in the mid 60’s. The warm temps were perfect for my short sleeve Castelli Perla jersey, Vizio Du shorts, Lycra knee warmers and Super Nano gloves.

This was my first time wearing the Castelli Vizio Du short. It’s rather popular and has been around for a number of seasons now. The Giro3 leg grippers are amazingly well executed — they’re soft and comfortable, and the wide material held my shorts and knee warmers in place without any chaffing. The KISS3 Donna chamois is a favorite and is comfortable on long rides. I’ve worn the Castelli Perla jersey a number of times now and really like the softflex material. I tend to wear it while I am spinning along on my indoor trainer because it feels so nice against my skin when I am perspiring heavily. I also like the gray and pink microfiber trim on the arms and neck, along with the pink zipper (which matches my pink Rudy helmet), as well as the 3 large rear pockets. The black Perla jersey paired with the black Vizio Du shorts make for a rather sharp looking ensemble. While I would have preferred matching black Perla shorts, sadly, my size is sold out.
