Style Check: TLD Skyline Speeda Shorts & Sprint Ops Jersey

The Skyline Shorts from Troy Lee Designs are a favorite due to the great fit, durable construction, comfortable materials and minimal branding. It’s also very affordable at $75.00, so you can easily justify purchasing multiple pairs.

Although style is paramount, I tend to prioritize functionality and fit when adding apparel to my personal collection. Fortunately I can always rely on our resident fashionista Inga to make the final call, so for this season I acquired a few more colors of the TLD Skyline shorts.

After seeing Inga’s new Skyline Speeda Shorts, I elected to live a little, and ordered the men’s Speeda as well. Keeping to my personal aesthetic, I kept it to my usual color pallete of gray and black and avoided the fluro option.

Finding a top to pair it with was more of a challenge. With a busy print like the cheeta pattern the safe bet is to stick with solids, so I picked up the Skyline Jersey in Tilt Dusk, or as I prefer to call it, “Bermstyle Blue”.

It also pairs well with the all black Skyline Jersey from 2014, but taking a cue from Inga, I decided to push it a bit and picked up the long sleeved Sprint Jersey in the Ops Midnight black camo.

Although the two patterns are quite different they look pretty good paired.

Although you wouldn’t think the two patterns would work together, somehow they do. The black color blocking in the rear helps, as well as the black fade in the front keeping the pairing of prints from in Inga’s words, “becoming a hot mess.”

The kit coordinates well with a few of my helmets and gloves which is nice if like me, your favorite clothing is already sitting in the hamper. I initially paired the kit with the A1 Helmet in the Drone Matte Cyan color before changing it out to a Bell Super in black with the white stripe. I’m running the FiveTen Freeriders in black with blue accents when running platforms and my black Giro Terraduros when running clipped in.
