The Showers Pass Hi-Vis Elite and Torch Jackets take commuter visibility to the next level. Pairing uber-reflective fabric with high-vis neon green panels and adding integrated LED lights, this is quite possibly the most high performance commuter jacket available.
I never thought I’d be looking at adding a neon green jacket to my arsenal of gear, but lately high visibility gear is looking like a prudent investment.
I used to get away with bike friendly jeans and a nice water resistant soft shell jacket for riding to work, but nowadays my commute involves riding upwards of 40 minutes one way. I’m racking up base miles rain or shine and enjoying the fitness aspect of commuting, but experience close calls on what feels like a daily basis.
Though Portland, Oregon is supposedly a bike friendly town, my experiences here haven’t reflected that supposed ideal. I’ve had way more close calls in this town than I have anywhere else.
The point of this pseudo rant? It’s time to step up my visibility game, and I’ve been eying the new Hi-Vis Torch Jacket. Featuring the latest in reflective fabric, its fully waterproofed with taped seams for wind and water resistance. Neon green fabric is added to the sides for increased visibility during the day with the addition of 4 integrated LED lights.
The integrated LED lights is a brilliant idea (pun intended) that keeps lights on your person as opposed to your bike, and as I’m installing and removing my LEDs lights from my commuter a few times a day to keep them from being stolen, an extremely appealing one.
At $325 and $279 for the Torch and Elite Jackets, they’re not cheap, but waterproof + breathable never is. (plus visible)
