On the road with the Pakgo Gearpack
The PakGo is a bit smaller than I initially thought it was going to be. The blocked-out form factor looked like it could be a great way to organize riding gear in my van. In use, I’d want more than one to tote the volume of gear I pack for vanlife-style trips. However, with the high price of fuel, I’ve been using my daily driver more often to get to the trail; it’s ideal for stowing gear in the car, especially if you’re carpooling with riding buddies. The hardshell side panels protect your helmet and other gear, and the PakGo and its clever execution provide more than ample space for all the stuff you’ll need for riding.

It’s easy to bang up your helmet when transporting your riding gear to the trail, and the hardshell side panels adds protection for your helmet and less durable items. High end helmets can be costly, and it’s nice to be reassured your investment is protected. The organized and labeled compartments make it simple to decide where to stow your items, with slots for everything.

While I have a few duffle and gear bags in various sizes and capacities in rotation for trips, I keep the PakGo gearpack fully loaded and ready to go with everything I need: a helmet, padded shorts, over shorts, long sleeve and short sleeve jersey, knee pads, waist pack, sunglasses, small mirrorless camera, socks, towel, snacks, and a post ride outfit. If you’ve ever had a ride ruined because you forgot your shoes/bike shorts/knee pads/gloves, having everything preloaded and ready to go is a relief.

Downsides of the PakGo? With reductions in carry-on bag sizing, the 16″ x 12″ x 12″ sizing is over the new 9″ x 14″ x 22″ sizing many US airlines are imposing, which rules it out for flights. Still, if you’re the kind of rider that tosses their gear into the car without a care, its reassuring that the PakGo will keep your items protected and secure.

That 12 x 12 size also happens to fit your IKEA shelves, making it an irresistible investment for apartment dwellers.
