Waist packs are our favorite way to tote gear with us on rides, and we’ve accumulated a small collection of them over the last few years, seeking the ideal carry solution. When PNW Components announced they were coming out with their take on the hip pack, we were looking forward to spending time with it, as the brand is known for making solid gear the performs — and the Rover Waist pack is no different.

Features
- Tri-Layer Sailcloth Fabric
- Detachable Water Bottle Holder
- Air Mesh Back Panel
- Adjustable to fit waist sizes 24-48 inches (62-121 cm)
- Lifetime Warranty against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship
- MSRP: $79

The PNW Rover waist pack fits quite a few secured zipper pockets into a tiny package making it easy to keep things organized. Each of these zippers adds to the cost of a product, and it’s amazing the folks at PNW managed to keep the retail price of it so reasonable. I’m not surprised, given that’s one of the things the PNW brand is known for – well designed, performance product offerings with a great value.

On the trail
Everything on the pack is well designed and laid out to be very usable, and it’s a great design for riders looking for a minimal carry for rides. Although the overall form factor is compact, I managed to fit in all my ride essentials plus a small camera or GoPro. One can even lash down a rolled up jacket using one of the cinch straps. And did we mention all of the pockets?

For the session-style rides so many of us are doing today, it hits all the buttons. (note: I’ve even toted it while XC skiing and hiking) While I love riding with a waist pack, I’d argue that if you can’t fit the gear you need into the Rover for a ride, you might consider running a backpack for the day.
The PNW Components Rover Hip Pack sells for $79. Check it out at PNWComponents.com or support the site by shopping for PNW Components gear at retail partners Amazon.com.
