Review: Crosspoint Gear Sport Waterproof Knit Gloves by Showers Pass

Crosspoint Gear is an updated collection of waterproof multi-sport outdoor gear from Showers Pass, a Portland-based apparel company. Fully waterproof, the gloves are surprisingly breathable thanks to the Coolmax moisture-wicking knit lining.

For 2024, the Crosspoint glove line up features a new lightweight iteration that adds an improved tactile feel when grasping objects and adds patches of conductive touchscreen material on the finger and thumb.

Features

  • Available in black and safety orange
  • Silicone print on palm to improve grip
  • Waterproof inner membrane with knit exterior
  • Touchscreen coating on thumb and forefinger

On the trail

We tested the original Crosspoint glove at time of the original release in 2019, and those gloves remained in our ongoing winter glove rotation until this fall, when one of them went missing after a frigid paddle board training session. That was a sad day, but it makes the arrival of these new review samples quite welcome.

Like the Crosspoint socks, I’ve found I prefer the new, lighter-weight Crosspoint Gloves. While still retaining their waterproof qualities, the functional touchscreen adds usability, and the lighter weight improves the grip of items like handlebars or ski poles. I don’t think they’re going to give up much in terms of durability, and they have an improved feel while grasping handlebars. (and ski poles)

The Crosspoint gloves perform well for a wide range of sporting activities. Having already used the Crosspoint gloves as my wet and cold weather bike commuting gloves, I gave them a shot while skate skiing as well as alpine skiing on a warm spring day and the reduced bulk in comparison to my other cold weather gloves offered a better feel, and improved my perceived mobility. I’ll also plan to use them for cool spring paddleboard training sessions.

On a mountain bike ride, during my silly “stick my hand in a cold running stream” test, I was pleasantly surprised that my hand didn’t get cold. They also stayed dry. That said, my main use for the Crosspoint gloves is bike commuting. For very cold days, I’ll stick to a thicker weight glove, (I have a pair of the Crosspoint Softshell gloves as well) but for cool mornings and occasional showers they’re perfect.

Sizing

I’m either a medium or large depending on the fit of gloves. The sample set I’ve been testing is a size large, which makes it easier to get on and take off, but it is a big long in the fingers. As you can see in the images, there is a bit of extra material which has them bunching up on the top.

The Crosspoint gloves stretch like socks, which makes them quite comfortable. I’d recommend the medium if you’re in between a medium and a large.
