The Made Bike Show took place this weekend and though the handmade bikes were the stars of the show, I came to it hoping to discover new accessories for the handmade (and small batch production) bikes I already own. Two products from Mone Bikes and Velo Orange stood out as must-see accessories.
Monē Bikes Light Bar
The Monē Bikes Light bar stopped me in my tracks. With 2.5″ of rise and 12 degrees of sweep, it looks like an amazing option for the long, multi-surface rides I enjoy doing in the winter. Though Monē Bikes offers a range of cool looking BMX/Moto-inspired, small batch production brazed chromoly bars, the light bar weighs considerably less than the steel options at 280 grams. Produced from carbon fiber (overseas) it is DH rated, though with a sticker price of $312, it is an investment.

Obviously, being a hand built bike show, the focus at Monē Bikes are his custom frames; Monē is a one man show based out of Colorado, operated by Cjell Monē. With a background as a mechanical engineer, he got his start building with Black Sheep Bikes in Fort Collins.

As I neglected to get good photos of his creations, you’ll have to head over to his website to learn more: MoneBikes.com

The Velo Orange Utility Bar & Rack
Velo Orange makes and sells frames, components, and accessories with a focus on utility, with a diverse range of useful products. They’ve been on my radar for some time, as they have one of the widest range of alternative handlebars in the US.
I’ve been keeping an eye out for a the right rack for my Wolfhound Retrosled for some time, and the Velo Orange Utility Riser bar struck me as a rack option with an “easy” button. The bar allows rack integration with threaded mounts that allows you to fix the utility rack to the bars as well as accessories to the rear.

Available in a flat and riser bar options, (in silver and black finishes)The Utility Riser Bar sells for $130, with the Utility Rack (sold separately) priced at $90.
The bar is MTB rated though it comes with a bit of a weight penalty, coming in at 699 grams. Adding the Utility Rack will add another 546 grams. A few specs for those interested:
- Stem clamp: 31.8mm
- Grip diameter: 22.2mm
- Overall Width C-C: 780mm
- Backsweep: 15 deg
- Rise angle: 2 deg
- Rise total: 69mm
