Boulder, Colorado has a lot of great riding for the dirt jumper/ freeride/ downhiller demographic. Between the jumps at the Fix, 63rd, the Boulder skatepark, and the Gunbarrel Jumps at Eaton Park, there is a lot of fun to be had. When you add all the awesome places to ride within an hour’s drive, the Velodrome Project, and the Valmont Bike Park (still in project phase), Boulder is seriously off the hook!
We rode Gun Barrel for the first time last week on our new Fisher bikes. It was great to come back for a second session, as my dirt jump bike was still in route via FedEx.
We came out to take advantage of the sunny weather. Unfortunately the main lines are pretty beat up and unridable at the moment, but the beginner line has a few fun turns that lead into the sets that were ideal for Inga to work on her high speed foot out technique.
The right side of the park had a line that was ridable as well, though it was beat down.
The first jump in the big set had a doable lip, but until the locals get some rain, or pump some water on the jumps, they aren’t to happening. I hit it up with another rider, and it was doable, but the beat down lip was set like a racer jump to a steep dirt jump landing. Sketchy! A digging session was planned for today, but as it snowed last night, I doubt the guys made it out there. We can’t wait to come back in the riding season to get another session in- this spot looks (and still is) super fun, and offers a lot of line choices, for varying skill levels.
