This video from Chriss Akrigg and Victor Lucas went viral a few weeks ago, but if you haven’t seen it yet, its new to you. It’s beyond badass. Akrigg fuses trail riding with trials, street, and dirt jumping for a sweet edit with his version of rolling down a hill in Spain. I realize he’s on the Mongoose Nugget, which is technically a slopestyle bike, but this is the stuff I dream of being able to rock in the context of a trail ride. Except for the rock-hopping trials stuff at least.
News compilation for March
Bay Area
East Bay Area, California. via MTBR
There are miles of dirt roads available for mountain biking in California’s East Bay. There are miles of single track trails as well. However, they have been off limits to bikes for over 20 years. It is high time things have changed. Take part in the East Bay Parks Survey and show the land managers we want to ride narrow trails too.

Takes 5mns to fill out the survey. Toward the end, there are some questions about mountain biking. Anyhow, here is your chance to get your opinion across to the park staff. Let them know you want more narrow trails.
Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz (MBOSC)
MBOSC is holding a fund raiser to go towards the Pogonip Multi-use Trail. Even if you don’t plan to ride there or live in the area, you might chip in a few bucks. Santa Cruz Bicycles donated a complete Carbon Nomad or Blur LT as the grand prize in a raffle. I never win crap, but I bought my ticket. Read more and donate here:

Please sign the petition by March 2 so we can show the land managers we have a large constituency of mountain bikers who want more trail access!
And now, a smattering of sweet video culled from the wilds of the internet:

2011 Tara Llanes Classic Details
New Events Join Mega DH Race – XC and Industry Cup events added to the 2011 Tara Llanes Classic at Northstar at Tahoe.
In a move sure to attract even more competitors and spectators, organizers of the Tara Llanes Classic have added Cross-Country and Industry Cup races to the September 24-25, 2011 Tara Llanes Classic lineup. The two new races join the established Mega DH event that has drawn hundreds of pros and amateurs to Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort over early fall weekends the last two years. The beautiful, world-class skiing and mountain bike racing venue near Lake Tahoe, CA, will be hosting the 2011 Tara Llanes Classic for the third straight year.
The Industry Cup also makes its debut in 2011. This one-of-a-kind event will be for sponsors only of the Tara Llanes Classic and promises to be a very prestigious Cup to win. The rules for this event will soon be posted on the Tara Llanes Classic website; please click here to find out more: www.tarallanesclassic.org
The Tara Llanes Classic provides world-class competition for both amateurs and pros. Proceeds from entry fees, sponsorships, and donations to benefit the Tara Llanes Road to Recovery Foundation, the Reeve-Irvine Research Center (RIRC), and new for 2011 is C.O.R.E – the Center for Restorative Exercise. Each of these organizations is instrumental in the treatment and therapy of spinal cord injuries. Click on the links at the bottom to learn more.
The Tara Llanes Classic was started by Brian and Thayne Bolin to help raise funds for Downhill pro Tara Llanes and her ever-growing medical costs after the champion mountain biker suffered a horrific crash that resulted in below the waist paralysis. Since then Tara has made phenomenal progress and is now able to both help organize the Tara Llanes Classic and participate as a rider in a 4-wheel DH bike.
