Walkie talkies are a great way to stay in touch with groups of friends on the mountain. Though we mostly have used them for communication with the crew when we’re snowboarding, we’ve been talking about getting a set for mountain biking. The downside is that they’re bulky, and unless you have a pack with a convenient spot to clip them, a pain to actually get to an use.
Some enthusiasts in Japan apparently felt similarly, so they developed a wearable earpiece that takes the place of the walkie talkie they’ve dubbed the Bonx. Utilizing Bluetooth, the earpiece pairs with your phone for a hands-free, voice activated experience for communicating with groups of friends while out playing.

The Bonx connects to a smartphone app to facilitate group conversation, which only transmits voice when the user speaks thanks to dual microphones with wind and noise reduction tech. The Bluetooth earpiece is water and shock-resistant, making it suitable for cycling, running, climbing, snowboarding/ skiing, stand-up paddle boarding and more.
The Bonx is currently in crowdfunding now — check it out on Indiegogo.com
