I should get back in to riding a lot more skateparks. We’re based out of Portland at the moment, and while the trails stay wet during this time of year, the parks dry out pretty quickly. Add the high number of bike friendly skateparks to the mix, and I’m running out of excuses.
Thankfully I got out the other day thanks to a call from Barrett Polychronis, and we headed out to the Tigard park to check it out. He had a few lines and ideas for a photo, and I was more than up for documenting some BMX action.
The Tigard park is pretty sweet, and has probably the coolest feature I’ve ever seen in a park- a dinosaur head. A T-rex, if you want to be specific. I was thinking it would be cool to shoot something with the T-rex head, but at this point, it would be really hard to out-do this incredible shot from BMX photog, Jared Souney. That shot and move is nothing short of awesome.
However, the clouds in the sky were going crazy all day, so I was fired up to take some pictures. The mission was to combine it with something rad in the foreground and to get them in the background of a shot. Barrett had a good footplant going on the quarter, so we enlisted Anthony from Kool-stop to help take it up a notch. Here’s what we came up with:
While Bear kicked it out, Anthony dodged and carved underneath him. After we got two angles of this, we were good.
The guys were feeling this hip, so we set up while the clouds were still awesome and got these:
