When it comes to securing our bikes around town, we’ve stuck to the smallest u-locks possible for the ease of carry. The downside is the need for a cable if we want to also secure a wheel. A company called Abus offers a unique take on bike security with their line of folding locks. The Bordo utilizes six metal bars linked together that can be utilized to fit and secure your gear in a variety of situations, like a frame and a wheel, or even a second bike.
When not in use, the lock folds into itself, with a number of frame mounting options should you wish to carry it on the bike. It also looks to be sized well enough that it could be handy as a defensive weapon, should the need ever arise.
The Bordo series of folding locks features a variety of models at various price points depending on the level of security required. The Abus Bordo Centium folding lock lists for $149. Check it out at Abus.com.
